A morning plant sale at the Dunedin Botanic Garden, run by the Friends of the Dunedin Botanic Garden. Everything raised goes back into the Garden.
The sale
Dunedin's Famous Rhododendron Day Plant Sale is the Friends' spring sale. Rhododendrons, perennials, bulbs and shrubs of all varieties, sold from the propagation facility where a good many of them were grown.
There is a coffee cart on site. Bring your own bags or boxes, because plants are easier to carry home in something. The sale runs rain or shine.

Who they are
The Friends of the Dunedin Botanic Garden is an incorporated society formed in 1986, which makes 2026 its fortieth year. It is a not-for-profit membership organisation and a registered New Zealand charity, CC3348.
The aim is simple enough. Foster interest in the Dunedin Botanic Garden, help it develop, and raise money for it. Volunteers have been turning up to monthly working sessions since 1987. Funding comes from membership fees, donations, plant sales and funding applications.
The Friends also run the Information Centre in the Garden, where the shop and the volunteer guides are based.
Join them
Membership is open to anyone. It costs a modest amount each year, and there are individual, joint, life and club categories, along with free membership for volunteers and garden club members.

Working together
GO Ōtepoti runs Bloom Spring in collaboration with the Friends of the Dunedin Botanic Garden, and as a fundraiser for them. The plant sale is their event, sitting inside our October programme.
